It's the care and dedication that has produced the exquisite fruit for the last 5 years. Understanding timing and extent of suckering, canopy management and crop load and executing the needs at precisely the right time can have profound results, particularly on a terroir such as ours that already processes the ultimate in characteristics for premium fruit. There are literally dozens of aspects that need to be considered. The 33 years of experience with this marvelous vineyard has taught us much. It is the experience and extreme attention to detail that has allowed the zenith vintages 2006 through 2010 to attain such superb quality.

Wine Advocate

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon appears to have clamped down a bit since I tasted it last year. An unusually up-front, juicy wine from Forman, the 2009 is laced with expressive dark red fruit, flowers, mint, cinnamon, licorice and menthol. There is a softness and suppleness to the 2009 that is impossible not to love. Layers of fruit continue to build on the juicy, silky finish. The 2009 looks to be one of the more accessible wines of the vintage, but it also needs at least several years to lose some of its baby fat and primary notes. The French oak is also a bit prominent, providing one clue as to the wine's ultimate potential vis-a-vis the monumental 2010. The 2009 is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.

Score: 95. —Antonio Galloni, December 2012.

Wine Spectator

Tapered and refined, offering dried berry, leather, tobacco leaf, green olive and cedar flavors. Firms midpalate, ending with a note of crushed rock. Should gain with time. Best from 2014 through 2027.

Score: 89. —James Laube, November 15, 2012.
