Michele Chiarlo

Colour: Deep garnet with brilliant highlights and fine fluidity. Aroma: Ample, generous, intense, with great complexity and balance, a symphony of sensations suggesting blackcurrant, apricot, cherry, mint leaves, gentian and spices. Pairings: Robust red meat and game dishes, excellent with aged cheeses. Taste: All the aromas are confirmed on the palate, in a texture of rich full body, structure of great character, aristocratic tannins and an elegant, lingering finish.

Wine Spectator

A bit shy on the nose, yet this is lush and almost opulent, boasting pure cherry character that shows touches of licorice and leather. There's a steely base of tannins that keeps this focused and long on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2032.

Score: 94. —Bruce Sanderson, November 15, 2011.

Wine Advocate

The 2007 Barolo Cerequio is the freshest and most vibrant of these 2007 Baroli. Sweet dark cherries, menthol, pine, mocha and spices are some of the notes that are woven together in this rich, textured Barolo. Here, too, the balance of fruit and structure is terrific. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.

Score: 94. —Antonio Galloni, October 2011.

Wine Enthusiast

Michele Chiarlo’s Cerequio is one of the important wines that defines Barolo, past and present. This historic bottle offers consistency and longevity thanks to its aromas of spice, cola, red fruit, cigar box and licorice. In keeping with Nebbiolo tradition, it offers a tight, streamlined feel.

Score: 93. —Monica Larner, September 01, 2011.
