Napanook is an estate bottled wine from the historic Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, Napa Valley, made from grapes carefully selected for their lively fruit and soft tannins. Sweet floral notes and mesquite emerge in the 2010 Napanook. Generous yet restrained, the wine shows minerality and notes of dried herbs followed by caramelized orange peel, bing cherry and exotic spice flavors. The finish is long and balanced. The 2010 vintage is composed of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. This wine is created to be consumed young, and enjoyed with food, but will also age well for more than a decade. Christian Moueix recommends decanting young wines before serving to allow them to reach their full potential.

Wine Advocate

The 2010 Napanook emerges with sweet floral notes, black cherries, menthol, cloves, pine and incense. Beguiling and beautiful, the 2010 impresses for its overall harmony and total balance. I don't see the level of pure density found in the 2009, but some of that may be because of the wine's recent bottling, about one month before this tasting. Exotic aromas and flavors continue to develop as the wine sits in the glass. This is a striking showing from Dominus. The 2010 Napanook is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

Score: 92. —Antonio Galloni, December 2012.

Wine Enthusiast

Tastes candied at this time, offering a myriad of raspberry and cherry jam, red currant and caramelized oak flavors. Based on Cabernet Sauvignon, with additions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it's a rich, satisfying wine, but a little underwhelming for a Dominus wine.

Score: 89. —Steve Heimoff, September 01, 2013.

Wine Spectator

Dense and gutsy, this muscular Cabernet shows elements of finesse and refinement, with chewy currant, earth and cedar notes leading to a push of red berry fruit. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2024. 2,600 cases made.

Score: 89. —James Laube, October 15, 2013.
