The flagship 2011 Chardonnay Vie di Romans is drop-dead gorgeous. As always, the style is rich, broad and ample, but all the elements fall into place beautifully. Tangerine, white truffle, mint, smoke and butter all meld together in a Chardonnay endowed with exceptional beauty and depth. French oak adds support and texture but does not dominate. What a beautiful wine this is.

Score: 95. —Antonio Galloni, December 2013.

James Suckling

This is a special Chardonnay with a toasted oak, dried pineapple and lemon character. Full body with bright acidity and an intense finish. The combination of the freshness here and that depth is remarkable.

Score: 93. July 2013.

Wine Advocate

Vie di Romans shows its expert winemaking hand with the 2011 Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte Chardonnay. This is a beauty with thick pulses of ripe fruit, pear and apricot that give the wine loads of energy and personality. The wine reaches an optimal level of softness that is creamy in texture but never heavy or overdone. It ages on the lees for seven months in oak. Drink: 2014-2022.

Score: 92+. —Monica Larner, December 2013.

Wine Spectator

Aromatic, with rich notes of toasted hazelnut and coconut, matchbook and spice, this open-knit white is fresh and balanced, with creamed apple, juicy pear and pastry flavors. Drink now through 2018. 3,750 cases made.

Score: 90. —Alison Napjus, October 15, 2013.
