Chateau St. Jean

Cinq Cépages is the flagship wine of Chateau St. Jean. Each year, Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren selects fruit from the finest Bordeaux variety vineyards to craft a wine that showcases the best of Sonoma County.

Wine Enthusiast

Not showing well in its youth. It's all sharp tannins and acids and blackberry-cherry jam fruit that smacks of immaturity. But it's clearly well made, and has the depth and length of finish of a Cabernet that should gain in the bottle. Better after 2014.

Score: 90. —Steve Heimoff, May 01, 2011.

Wine Advocate

Their famous cuvee, which was once named Wine Spectator Wine of the Year, the 2007 Cinq Cepages is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon in this vintage. Hints of bay leaf, black currant, sweet cherry, cedar and subtle smoke are all present in this lush, medium to full-bodied, opulent and heady wine. Broad and savory, it seems to be on a fast evolutionary track and should be drunk over the next decade.

Score: 90. —Robert Parker, February 2011.

Wine Spectator

Firm and very Bordeaux-like with its tight band of cedar-laced currant, herb, dried berry and mineral notes. Full-bodied and well-proportioned, this is somewhat simpler on the finish. Drink now through 2020.

Score: 88. —James Laube, June 15, 2011.
