Intense, brilliant garnet-red colour. The aromas of underwood and ripe red berries which are present are typical of the terroir. The tannic structure is elegant and smooth. The finish is dominated by slight touches of spices and truffles. A complete wine, rich and fine, thanks to the harmony of all the elements which make it up.

Wine Advocate

Interestingly, it did not outclass its counterpart in the much inferior vintage of 2008, the 2008 Cotes du Rhone Les Champauvins. The latter wine was made from the same blend, has an identical price, and is of essentially equal quality. However, the 2008 is far more evolved than the twelve months difference in age would suggest. It also moves more toward the earthy, autumnal, vegetative character, but there is no shortage of sweet black cherry fruit, pepper, licorice, and spice box characteristics in this wine. Drink this full-bodied 2008 over the next two years, whereas the 2009 should last for 4-5 years.

Score: 90. —Robert Parker, August 2010.

Wine Spectator

Dark and juicy, but relatively fresh and forward, with fresh plum and blackberry notes backed by a dash of licorice. There's modest grip on the finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now. 7,000 cases made.

Score: 86. —James Molesworth, 2010.
