Poggio al Tesoro Sondraia 2007
Intense ruby-red in color and concentrated, Sondraia offers exotic, spicy aromas of ripe cherry and blackberry combined with notes of chocolate and mocha that linger softly on the palate. Sondraia is full-bodied and supple, yet refined, with soft tannins framing a silky texture. Strongly recommended with barbecued or roasted meats, filet mignon, steak tartare, and pasta or rich risottos.
Merlot and Cabs Sauvignon and Franc are the base of this ripe, dense and rich Bolgheri blend. The intensity is impressive and so is the overall density and persistence of the finish. Pair this wine with hearty dishes, such as sausage and slow-cooked lentils.

The 2007 Sondraia reveals tons of Bolgheri character in its warm, sunny fruit. Espresso, blackberries and French oak meld together in a radiant, expressive red that caresses the palate with layers of ample fruit. This is a gorgeous effort from Poggio al Tesoro and a very classic, representative red from Maremma. Sondraia is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
