The wine exhibits beautiful structure, complexity, and length. The bouquet offers kirsch, blackberry, earth, truffle, and grilled meats. The palate's silky texture and fine tannins envelop flavors of blackberry, cherry, white pepper, spice, minerals, and earth. The resonant, silky finish lingers for well over a minute. The wine is a testament to the unique terroirs of Walla Walla and Washington. The composition is 94% Syrah (Les Collines Vineyard, Seven Hills Vineyard, and Lewis Vineyard), 3% Grenache (Minick Vineyard), 3% Mourvèdre (Minick Vineyard).

Wine Spectator

Supple, complex and distinctive for its black olive and mineral character, all wrapped in a blanket of ripe blackberry fruit and nappy tannins, persisting impressively on the long, vibrant finish. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Best from 2012 through 2017.

Score: 94. —Harvey Steiman, 2011.

Wine Enthusiast

QED stands for Quod Erat Demonstrandum (what was to be shown). A further motto on the label reads "the proof is in the bottle." This is supple, almost voluptuous, dark, sappy, packed with compressed black fruits, streaked with iodine and coffee. It shows excellent length and opens with scents hinting of game, earth, sweet mocha, lead pencil and cedar. Complex and intriguing, with six or eight year aging potential. A very impressive debut.

Score: 94. —Paul Gregutt, August 31, 2010.

Wine Advocate

The first release, the 2007 QED is made up of 94% Syrah, 3% Grenache, and 3% Mourvedre sourced from several top vineyards. It was aged in 25% new French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it offers up a classy nose of pepper, mineral, smoked meat, game, spice box, and blueberry. This leads to a mouth-filling, intense, super-concentrated, opulent wine that has enough underlying structure to evolve for 3-4 years. It will deliver much pleasure through 2022 if not longer. This is a very fine debut indeed!

Score: 93. —Jay Miller, October 2009.
