Clos Rochette is a 11 acre monopole of Domaine Faiveley located in the heart of the Mercurey appellation. This is an extremely rocky vineyard with soils of clay, limestone and gravel. Vines date back to 1960. Grapes are hand harvested, sorted and pressed on site in Mercurey. Following vinification the young wines are brought to the domaine cellars in Nuits-St-Georges for aging. To preserve freshness only a small portion of the wine is aged in oak, with the majority staying in stainless steel for the 10-12 month aging period.

Wine Enthusiast

This is rounded, rich, missing some acidity but with the compensation of ripe yellow fruits layered with pineapple and spice from wood. With all its sweetness, it is not for aging.

Score: 87. —Roger Voss, December 31, 2007.

Burghound

Here the nose also reflects very fresh aromas of honeysuckle and ripe lemon notes that are in keeping with the citrusy, round and agreeable flavors that are delicious, frank and straightforward, all wrapped in an easy-to-like finish of no particular depth but fine persistence.

Score: 86-88. —Allen Meadows, February 2011.
