Haut Medoc is located south of the Medoc region, and northwest of the city of Bordeaux. (Medoc is actually divided in two sections - the Haut Medoc in the south, and the north traditionally called Medoc.) The region of Haut Medoc was a marshy area until drained in the 17th century. Now, it is one of the most valued regions of Bordeaux, producing a variety of well known appellations such as Margaux, Pauillac and Saint Julien. Haut Medoc is predominately a red wine producing area. Most are made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, and are often blended with Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The resulting wines are light in flavor with notes of blackberry, black fruits, wood and vanilla.

Château Larose Trintaudon Haut Médoc 2005

Château Lanessan Haut Médoc 2006

Château Lanessan Haut Médoc 2006

Redwa88 BN#267729

This is another very good effort from this consistent property that turns out wines that are often very close to classified-growth quality. Dark ruby/purple-tinged with cedary, black currant notes intermixed with roasted herbs and underbrush, this medium-bodied wine displays excellent concentration and relatively sweet tannins. It should evolve nicely for ... more

Château Lanessan Haut Médoc 2009

Château Lanessan Haut Médoc 2009

RedFuturewa90-92 BN#293169

Generally a St.-Julien/Pauillac-like offering, the 2009 Lanessan seems more explosive and concentrated than prior vintages. I’m not sure it is the finest I have ever tasted, but it boasts a dense purple color as well as copious creme de cassis, cedar wood, underbrush, and spice notes. Beautiful opulence, silky tannins, ... more

Run by the Cordier family, with the vineyard managed by Alfred Tesseron’s team at Pontet-Canet, this is the first vintage from their biodynamically farmed estate, and it is certainly the best wine I have ever tasted from Senejac.
