Hamilton Russell Vineyards is the most southerly wine Estate in South Africa, nearest to the sea. The winery makes only Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, to which the terroir is best suited. Their wines are regarded as the best in South Africa, and among the best in the world. Owner Anthony Russell, and winemaker Hannes Storm are completely dedicated to expressing the terroir of the vineyard through their wines. The yields are tiny, and the worldwide demand for the wine is strong.

The grapes are hand-harvested and traditionally vinified with minimal handling. The methods employed help the grapes express both their origin and the character of the vintage.

According to James Molesworth of The Wine Spectator, "The HR Pinot Noir is quietly getting better and better".
