I absolutely love these wines! Incredible value - great prices! For those of you who have not yet heard of Susana Balbo, she is an Argentine wine producer, making wines for over 22 years. Her family winery is Dominio del Plato. As a woman, she stands out among the mostly-male winemakers in Argentina. She has probably produced a larger variety of wines than any other winemaker in the country as well. She travels the world over, spending time at different wine regions, studying wtih local winemakers and growers. Even more impressive - Balbo is the first Argentinean enologist ever hired as a consultant for European wineries.
At Dominio del Plato in Mendoza, Susana crafts her own signature labels. Her wines express prestige, power and finesse. Her "higher end" most prestigious wines are made under the Susana Balbo label. Her wines are made by making a rigorous selection of her finest barrels, prior to making the final blend. These are divided into "parents" (reserve level wines), and "offspring" - or Crios. Her Crios line consists of wines that are meant to be enjoyed in their youth. These are delicious wines which represent terrific value!
