Chateau Arnauton Fronsac 2009
Reg. $24.99 On Sale $17.99
Regarding the 2009 vintage in Bordeaux, Robert Parker recently commented:
"2009 is the greatest vintage I have tasted in Bordeaux since 1982..."
"Fronsac, of course, is a treasure trove for excellent wines at realistic prices, and Arnauton is a good-sized 62-acre property on the south-facing hillsides in the eastern part of the actual appellation." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
For those of you unfamiliar with Fronsac, it is a region which boasts some of the best quality wines in Bordeaux. The appellation lies where the Dordogne and Isle rivers meet. The wines produced here are typically powerful and masculine, different than the majority of the Merlot-based wines from the region.
Fronsac sits side by side with St Emilion and Pomerol. Because it is less well-known than its illustrious neighbors, prices are lower and so it's a great place to look for serious bargains. The area is "under-valued", but the wines are made with a terrific amount of care. Over the past few decades, winemakers have been making more of an investment in making high-quality wines from Fronsac. Bordeaux lovers seeking out great deals should not let this one escape!
The wines of Arnauton benefit from a unique clay and limestone soil. The Arnauton vineyard is considered the highest in the entire wine region of Bordeaux and enables the winemaker to harvest the grapes at perfect ripeness. Outstanding vineyard work and traditional Bordeaux winemaking skills are combined with modern techniques to create full bodied, elegant wines with a subtle complexity achieved through aging for 12 months in French oak barrels.
With the Arnauton, you can experience an historical vintage in Bordeaux without spending a lot of money!
