Altos de la Hoya Monastrell 2010
Reg. $14.99 Sale $11.99 By the Case $9.99
We tried this wine the other day and it is fabulous! Lush and powerful, the Altos de la Hoya Monastrell consistently offers tremendous quality despite its everyday pricetag.
Bodegas Olivares is a little grower based out of Jumilla, one of Spain's current "hot spots". The Olivares family are famous for their ungrafted, 60+ year old vine Monastrell. Their vineyards are in the northernmost zone of La Hoya de Santa Ana. This is the coolest subzone of Jumilla, with sandy, lime-rich soils that produce intensely aromatic wines. Jumilla not only has some of the oldest vines in the world, but also the largest number of ungrafted vines. Most of the region is planted with Monastrell, one of the most prized varietals in Mediterranean Europe.
This very affordable Spanish gem is made from 92% Monastrell (Mourvedre) and 8% Grenache. A fantastic bargain to buy by the case! It is extremely food friendly and will pair well with a variety of foods. Enjoy it with grilled pork or beef. I would also drink it during an antipasto course of roasted or grilled vegetables and a variety of hard cheeses.
