Domaine Corsin St Veran Vieilles Vignes 2010
Reg. $24.99 Sale $19.99 The 2010 vintage in Burgundy is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the finest in recent history....
Since the late 1960's, the Corsins have been producing and bottling wine at their own small winery. Their approach to viticulture is biodynamic, focusing on the health and balance of the soil. Their Chardonnay vines are located in Davaye, Fuisse and St. Veran. Gilles Corsin is a pre-eminent cellar master in southern Burgundy, and splits his time between his family's vineyards and his sourcing business. He tastes and consults with Duboeuf, Jadot and Vergers and purchases hundreds of barrels of Pouilly Fuisse on behalf of the negociants. He prefers his barrels a little aged, as these don't obscure the purity of the Chardonnay as do the new ones.
St. Veran is an appellation in the southern half of the Maconnais sub-region of Burgundy. The appellation is divided into two parts, separated by the vineyards of Pouilly Fuisse. At the southernmost appellation of Burgundy, St Veran overlaps slightly with the northern edge of Beaujolais. If you are like me, and love Chardonnay - but not the over-oaked California style - this is the white for you! As Stephen Tanzer says, this St. Veran is "about as far from California Chardonnay as one could imagine". This gorgeous white with crisp, vibrant acidity comes from 60 year old vines. This is one that Burgundy lovers will adore! (Also - scroll down to see some information about a Spring Tasting Adventure happening this Thursday)
