Rioja Reserva Especial "Vina Ardanza" 2001

A panoramic view of Rioja Alta

After tasting 20 Riojas from a range of vintages,
The New York Times voted the Vina Ardanza #1

"No. 1 was the 2001 La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza, a wine that right now is absolutely delicious, but is also so much more than that. With lightly spicy fruit flavors, mellowed by long aging in barrels of older American oak, it was a brilliant example of a classic Rioja, with complexity and finesse. The 2001 vintage is widely regarded as great, and the producer, La Rioja Alta, thought so highly of this wine that it called it Reserva Especial, only the third time one of its wines has earned that designation, along with 1964 and 1973."

In addition to that stellar review from The New York Times, Jay Miller of
The Wine Advocate rated the 2001 Vina Ardanza Rioja Especial
an impressive 94 Points!

The wines made by La Rioja Alta S.A. are made in the traditional Rioja manner. They are adamant about not using French oak, keeping the unique Rioja style which has been developed since the end of the 19th century. The wines display a wonderful rich ruby colour, gorgeous aromas of oak, spices and fruit followed by a sensational feel on the palate, with a wonderful smooth texture, clean rich oaky/fruity flavours and a long lingering finish. All the wines are ready for consumption on release but will keep for many more years in bottle.
