Robert Parker rated the super 2009 Cuvee Alyce Chardonnay 95+ points!
""If I were giving out awards for proprietors who combine remarkable humility with high quality, candidates for the top two spots would be Tom Dehlinger and Stephen Hansel. Stephen prefers his 2009s to his 2008s, primarily because they were easier to make and they have shown well since the first pressings of the grapes, always a reassuring sign of quality. Moreover, prices at this estate have not risen in over seven years and it is rare to see such reasonable prices for such high quality".
Antonio Galloni, also from The Wine Advocate, awared the Cuvee Alyce 92 points and gave it the following review:
"The 2009 Chardonnay Cuvee Alyce is a gorgeous, layered wine that impresses for its nuance and detail. Ripe apricots, flowers, lemon and sweet spices are some of the many aromas and flavors that take shape in the glass, but ultimately the Cuvee Alyce is most remarkable for its textural elegance and silkiness. The Cuvee Alyce is a single block selection from a parcel planted with Hyde and Hudson Wente selections and clone 95. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019."
The Hansel wines are truly special. The winery is located in Sonoma County at the southern tip of the Russian River Valley. The location is ideal for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as the nights and mornings are cooled by coastal fog, yet the mid-days warm up to perfect grape ripening temperatures. These conditions make for wines that are very Burgundian in style. The perfect wine for both the Burgundy lover and Cali Chard lover! This is one not to miss!
