In 1971, my father Ferruccio Lamborghini, purchased the property “La Fiorita”. The estate is located in the region of Umbria, close to the Lake Trasimeno. This area is today one of Italy's most famous regions for wine production. My father planted the area's traditional grape varieties, Sangiovese, Gamay and Ciliegiolo, as well, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Already at that early stage, he envisioned the great potential of these international varietals. Since then many changes and investments have been made in order to continually develop and improve upon the vineyards. The cellars were constructed in 1975 which marked the beginning of the commercialisation of the wines. Today the estate extends over thirtytwo hectares, including twelve which were recently sown. Future plans foresee the eventual replanting of the entire vineyard area implementing the modern philosophy of high density planting with selected clones of Sangiovese and Merlot. The 1997 Harvest signalled the beginning of a dramatic improvement within the estate regarding both management of the vineyards and consequently the development of the wines. Oenologist, Riccardo Cotarella, assumed responsibility of the vinification of the wines and under his direction, production was drastically reduced, pushing the estate forward toward achieving its quality oriented goals. The result of these efforts brought forth two new wines from the estate, “Trescone” and “Campoleone”. “Trescone” is a red IGT (Umbria), revealing an intense ruby/purple colour, with notes of black cherries, new oak, dried herbs and spices. “Campoleone” is the most prestigious wine of the estate. The colour is a deeply saturated purple, with a bouquet bursting with black fruits, licorice, vanilla, chocolate and minerals. The wine is rich, full bodied, generous and velvety. The tannins are abundant, yet sweet, adding structure and long aging qualities to the wine.
