Medium-deep garnet hue, this wine delivers cool and almost leafy nuances at first followed by fine fruity blackberries and an ethereal flavour. A fine chiselled acidity on the palate coupled with a lot of fruity charm. Mid-textured and well structured with lots of finesse. Try with red meat dishes such as a strip steak, lamb ragout or venison.

Wine Spectator

Very firm, with sour cherry, damson plum and raspberry flavors that are backed up by plenty of fresh acidity. The finish is smoky, with touches of graphite. Best from 2010 through 2014.

Score: 88. —Kim Marcus, 2009.

Wine Advocate

Heinrich's 2006 Blaufrankisch - bottled in January, 2008 - exhibits sappy, tart black fruits and a persistent palate presence, although with a touch of awkward oak resin. Palpably dense and invigoratingly salty and tart in finish, this will prove versatile for several years in bottle. The 2007 Blaufrankisch wines here - some destined for single-vineyard bottlings - are impressively concentrated, dynamic, and texturally refined. This is one Burgenland address where I expect the collective 2007s will be superior to the 2006s.

Score: 88. —David Schildknecht, February 2009.
