Patz & Hall

This rich and powerful wine reflects the warmer nature of the vintage, with a more ripe and extracted expression of Chenoweth's signature strawberry and cherry flavors and aromas. These red-fruit elements are accentuated by deeper layers of licorice, espresso, molasses and gingerbread that underscore the natural intensity of the wine. An exuberant Pinot Noir that will gain additional depth and complexity with aging.

International Wine Cellar

Good deep red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of black fruits, menthol and mulled spices, with a touch of warmth. Dense, plump and sweet; in a distinctly opulent New World style, with a lot of everything. This is actually a bit youthfully aggressive today but its sweet tannins suggest it just needs a year or so to calm down.

Score: 91. —Ian D'Agata,

Wine Spectator

There's a dried porcini mushroom and loamy earth edge to the dried berry and mineral notes. Full-bodied, tight and focused, clinging to its mushroomy dried berry center. Best from 2012 through 2019.

Score: 88. —James Laube, May 31, 2011.

Wine Enthusiast

Fruity extract marks this big flavored, jammy wine, brimming with raspberries and cherries. It shows a modern approach to grapegrowing and winemaking, designed to satisfy palates, but it could use some old-fashioned complexity. Might develop in the bottle over the next 3-5 years.

Score: 87. —Steve Heimoff, May 01, 2011.

Wine Advocate

The 2008 Pinot Noir Chenoweth exhibits more sweet cherry and berry fruit, some reductive notes that subside with aeration, a medium-bodied, straightforward mouthfeel and pleasant but uninspiring flavors. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
One of the most reliable negociant firms in all of California is that of Patz and Hall, as the following tasting notes demonstrate. They are spot-on across the board with their generic as well as single-vineyard wines. There is no doubt they have been accessing some of the best single-vineyard sites in California for nearly as long as I have been writing about wine. Patz and Hall now produce eight separate Pinot Noirs, which would make them feel at home working in the Cote d-Or, where most vignerons have at least a half dozen different offerings.

Score: 86. —Robert Parker, February 2011.
