The Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region of Germany is located along the Moselle river and its tributaries, the Saar and Ruwer. Commonly referred to as Mosel (for simplicity), the region is Germany’s third largest in terms of wine production, and first in terms of prestige. The Mosel-Saar-Ruwer vineyards cover the valleys overlooking the three rivers, and are known for their steep slopes and slate soils. The combination of slope, soil, and sunshine make for truly great wines, but can also make the cost of wine high. Mosel-Saar-Ruwer whites are generally light in body, crisp, and high in acidity. The region is dominated by Riesling grapes, producing some of the highest quality Riesling wines in the world.
