The Alsace region of France is located on the Northeast border of the country, on the west bank of the Rhine river. Alsace is the smallest of all the major French wine-producing regions, yet is responsible for about 20% of France’s annual wine production. Bordered by the Vosges mountains and the Black Forest, Alsace is protected from both westerly and easterly winds. This creates very cold winters and very hot summers - which actually make grapes somewhat difficult to grow. Grapes love to struggle, therefore the region produces some of the best and most unique white grapes in the world.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
