The Rhone Valley region lies in the southeast of France, along the Rhone River. Known primarily for its traditional and inexpensive types of red wine, the area is divided into two distinct areas – the north and south. The wines in the North are made predominantly from Syrah grapes; these produce dry, full-bodied red wines that have either fruity or herbal flavors. The wines from the South are usually made from Grenache grapes, which produce some of France’s best bargain wines.

Parker, Jr. Initially titled The Baltimore-Washington Wine Advocate the first issue was published in 1978. Each issue also includes from 400 to more than 1,000 wine reviews, which consist of wine ratings and tasting notes.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
