Bordeaux is one of the most extensive, and perhaps the most famous of the wine-producing regions of France. Producing over 700 million wine bottles each year, Bordeaux is the largest wine-producing region in the world. Bordered by the Atlantic coastline and traversed by three major rivers, the area has a fair climate which lends itself well to the creation of great wines.
Over 80% of the wines produced in Bordeaux are red, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes. Petite Verdot and Malbec are also common. Although known for producing some of the world’s best red wine, the region also produces a wide variety of white, sweet and sparkling wines as well. The wine from Bordeaux encompasses everything from everyday table wine, to some of the most expensive wines in the world. Like most of the country, wine bottles here are labeled by the region in which the grapes have been harvested, and not the grape varietal.

Three elements, already in balance, contribute to the success of this wine. First, the rich fruit, juicy blackberry and mulberry, lifted by acidity. Second, the new wood, which spices the fruit but is already smoothing out the third element, the dark firm tannic layer. more

This 1996 Valandraud has firmed up significantly since bottling. Unfined and unfiltered, this viscous wine displays the tell-tale thickness of color (saturated dark ruby/plum/purple). The debut vintage for La Gomerie, the 1995 Le Pin-look-alike is showing fabulously well after bottling.
