La Font de Notre Dame Gigondas 2014
|Brand||La Font de Notre Dame|
VinousFull ruby. Pungent aromas of cherry pit, blackberry, licorice and lavender pick up a smoky overtone in the glass. Pliant and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated dark berry flavors, a hint of spicecake and subtle pepperiness. Fine-grained tannins add shape and grip to a persistent, smoke- and spice-accented finish.
Wine AdvocateA blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Cinsault, the 2014 Gigondas La Font de Notre Dame was mostly destemmed, saw the classic, long maceration that's common in the region and was aged mostly in tank, with 20% in five- to six-year-old barrels. It offers impressive levels of fruit and richness in its kirsch, plum, ground herbs, pepper and tobacco leaf-scented bouquet. This gives way to a medium-bodied, nicely textured Gigondas that has ripe tannin and solid mid-palate depth. This was a challenging year for Gigondas, but this is solid and offers more charm and texture than most.
