Caymus Napa Valley is more representative of a standard Cabernet of Napa Valley, as it is a bit less precocious than the Special Selection, but still delivers big. Caymus prides itself on producing wines that are as approachable in youth as well at maturity. The Napa Cab is produced under the winemaking hand of Chuck Wagner.
Krug Grande Cuvée BrutAs you taste it, notes of toasted bread, hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar and jellied fruits may take you by surprise. You may even taste hints of apples still on the tree, flowers in bloom, ripe and dried fruit, almonds, marzipan, gingerbread, sweet spices and even brioche and honey. You may also notice its exceptional freshness in the mouth, with rich and tangy flavours of lemon and grapefruit enhanced by the subtlety of its fine and elegant bubbles. Krug Grande Cuvée can age beautifully.
Taylor Fladgate Tawny Port 20 year oldAnother magnificent and finely-balanced tawny of outstanding richness and complexity. The additional ten years of aging produces a fine balance between the rich, raisiny fruit and the nutty, honeyed finish - a taste to linger over. This rare port is traditionally enjoyed as a dessert wine or at the end of the meal. Taste: With an intense amber, tawny color, the wine has opulent, voluptuous, spicy, jammy and nutty aromas with orange blossom notes and a fine oak influence coming from the long aging in cask. The full palate is very rich, with concentrated flavor and a long, mellow finish. Food Pairing: Pairs well with figs, almonds, pecan pie, desserts made with coffee or caramel, and crème brûlée. It can be appreciated at the end of the meal with walnuts or dried fruit, and it can be served cool in the summer.
Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes 2007 375mlDue to poor weather during much of the growing season, this vintage should, by all rights, be best forgotten. And it is true that summer temperatures were cool, there were 100 mm of precipitation in August, ripening was very uneven, there were burst berries, etc. However, a miraculous and radical change in the weather propitious to botrytis turned what started out as a handicap to a decisive advantage. In fact, the variety and complexity of grapes brought in at different stages produced a fantastic wine.
Carlisle Papera Ranch Zinfandel 2014A nuanced, perfumed nose of confit fruits, sandalwood and rose petal. Bright, sleek and refined on the palate, reflecting both the vineyard's prized position on the eastern edge of the Laguna de Santa Rosa (nature's "air conditioner" for the Piner/Olivet area) and the precision derived from the high percentage of Zinfandel in this post-prohibition planting - a clean expression of the variety. Plum preserves and baking spices mingle on the palate, with nutmeg notes leading the charge on the finish. Stunning. Drink 2019 - 2030.
Larkmead Cabernet Sauvignon 2014Petit Verdot, even in the small quantities present in this wine, exudes its signature textural density and floral nose of purple and blue flowers that complement Cabernet's macerated red and blue fruit so well. Cassis, graphite and crushed rock follow through on the palate, with a vibrant, cherry cola tone that rings in the finish. The fruit for this wine was harvested from predominantly young vines, and their youthful energy resonates on the palate. It is medium in weight with a supple, juicy core of blackberries that is lifted by hints of red licorice and spice. There is an expansiveness on the finish as the tannins coat the palate. The tannins themselves are very dusty, like a cherry-flavored talcum powder. This wine is incredibly expressive right now, with a wonderful balance of aroma, flavor and structure. As such, I recommend drinking this wine upon release and for the next 3-5 years. That said, an additional 10-15 years of cellaring will reward those who enjoy watching the darker, youthful flavors evolve into tobacco leaf and plum.

This wine is full bodied, powerful and rich. It should be kept for special meals like foie gras, fish in cream sauces, shellfish and white meats in rich sauces. This wine will age for 10-15 years in good conditions of temperature and humidity.
Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2016The translucent, aurora-gold hue of this wine predicts what's to come in the glass. Mouthwatering and luscious, its aroma overflows with tree-ripened fruit - nectarine, quince, peach and Fuji apple - as well as a hint of floral perfume and tropical notes of ripe, juicy pineapple, passion fruit, papaya and mango. Sophistication has come early for this wine with a strong impression of developing minerality. In the mouth, it's round, lush and vibrantly balanced across the palate. Richness and weight counterbalance bright acidity supported by flavors of tangerine, lemon zest, candied orange peel and sweet pink grapefruit. The finish is luxurious, lingering on well beyond any rational expectation.
