Wine EnthusiastA blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Syrah, this wine offers aromas of dark plums, blackberry, dark chocolate and asphalt, with floral and spice top notes. The fruit flavors are sweet and approachable, backed by lightly chalky tannins.
Wine AdvocateThe 2012 Blackboard Red is a kitchen-sink blend of 33% Syrah, 26% Cabernet Franc, 18% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Malbec. Vinified in stainless steel and aged 16 months in once- and twice-used French oak, it's a rock-solid effort that gives up plenty of ripe black fruits, peppery herbs and graphite in a medium to full-bodied, fruit-driven, fresh and easy-drinking style. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years.
Wine SpectatorTaut and relatively light-footed, with well-modulated blackberry and floral flavors on a polished frame. Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2017. 2,500 cases made.
