Jose Maria da Fonseca Domini 2014
|Brand||Jose Maria da Fonseca|
Wine EnthusiastFrom the producer's own vineyards in the Douro, this is a rich wine with plenty of firm tannins and a strongly mineral character. It has juicy red fruits that are balanced by acidity. The structure and dense tannins promise aging. Drink from 2018.
Wine SpectatorA rich and minerally red, with notes of graphite to the dark plum and green olive flavors. The finely textured finish is fresh, showing blueberry accents. Drink now through 2019. 1,000 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Domini is a blend of Touriga Nacional (50%), Tinta Roriz (32%) and Touriga Francesa (18%), aged for three months in a mixture of French and American oak. It comes in at 14% alcohol. A blend of Douro subregions, this is pleasant and fruity (unlike a lot of 2014s), but it shows little depth or intensity. It is, of course, the regular Tinto, not intended to be a big wine. It's an easy-drinker this year that will show best when it is young. You'll appreciate it early on more than the score suggests, but it won't turn into anything special in the cellar, no matter how long it theoretically lasts.
