Cline Lodi Zinfandel 2012
Wine AdvocateCline has always done well with Zinfandel, and the 2012 Zinfandel Lodi (100% Zinfandel; 150,000 cases produced) is a straightforward, soft, consumer-friendly example revealing attractive briery, peppery fruit, no hard edges, attractive weight, and a soft finish. It is meant to be drunk in its first year of life. I have been tasting Cline Cellars' wines for many years and clearly remember their debut releases offering great value. They then went through a mixed qualitative period where the wine quality seemed to have slumped. However, over the last few years they have come back with a vengeance, and now Cline Cellars has become a value hunter's treasure trove. All in all, this is a very impressive line-up of value-priced wines that readers should take seriously.
Wine EnthusiastCline makes a lot of this wine and they do a good job with it. Soft and leathery in spicy baked plum and blackberry, this is a perfet wine to pair with a myriad of midweek meals and outdoor parties.
Wine SpectatorTart and zesty, but rather simple and herbal. Drink now. 150,000 cases made.
