A brooding hue and viscous consistency, powerful aromas of crème de cassis, boysenberry, and ripe cherries are complemented by a soft minerality and hints of dark chocolate. The entry is smooth with dark plums and a charred meatiness that floods to create a velvety texture that lingers.
Orin Swift Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon 2014An alluring hue of dark garnet sits in the glass, encircled by a glowing ruby rim. Immediate aromas of ripe black cherry, blueberry and classic cassis are supported by undertones of lavender, jasmine, sage, tobacco, cigar box and the slightest touch of anise. Rich and vibrant upon entry, flavors of dark plums, figs and black fruit transform into sweet vanilla and dark chocolate framed by velvety and plush tannins. The wine finishes with great length and a touch of acidity-an elegant Cabernet Sauvignon from select vineyards in the Napa Valley.
Department 66 Others 2014OTHERS is the new release from Dave Phinney's new winery and vineyards in Maury, France. The wine has a ruby, purple opaque hue with aromas of licorice, spring flowers, campfire, toast and sweet vanilla. On the palette there are abundant flavors of blackberry, wild berry, pepper and spice. Intense and concentrated with a persistent finish, the wine is ready to drink now and enjoy over the next 5 years. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan.
Orin Swift Blank Stare Sauvingon Blanc 2016Tight at first, then generous on the nose, the wine bursts with classic aromas of white peach, pear and freshly cut grass as well as stone, butterscotch, and clove. Shards of minerality, white fig and lemon zest dominate the palate, with beams of acidity following through the extensive finish.
Orin Swift Palermo Cabernet Sauvignon 2016A dense plum, red visage brilliantly precedes the tasting. Multidimensional aromatics of cassis, currant, mulled dark fruits, and toasty barrique oak perfume the glass. Opulent and rich, the wine explodes with concentrated flavors of black cherry, ripe boysenberry, assorted dark fruits, kirsch, and a topnote of dark roasted espresso. A persuasive mid palate persists with freshness and closes with supportive tannins that are velvety and polished.
Orin Swift D66 2014Optimum growing conditions with a crowning harvest mark the 2014 vintage. A saturated cardinal hue belted in garnet is revealed in the glass. The nose brims with an impeccable oak profile with shaded oak tree accents. A mineral cast of alluvial soil can be detected as well, which frames a vibrant perfume of red berry fruits, cassis, cardamom, and exotic spices. The entry bursts with a vibrant blueberry and cassis concentrate that is rounded out with the richness of a crème brûlée, or crema catalana. The mid palate has vibrant acidity with distinctive mineral notes of garrigue, stone, and schist. Closing with purpose, the wine boasts silky tannins and a lengthy finish of sublime richness.
Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes 2007 375mlDue to poor weather during much of the growing season, this vintage should, by all rights, be best forgotten. And it is true that summer temperatures were cool, there were 100 mm of precipitation in August, ripening was very uneven, there were burst berries, etc. However, a miraculous and radical change in the weather propitious to botrytis turned what started out as a handicap to a decisive advantage. In fact, the variety and complexity of grapes brought in at different stages produced a fantastic wine.
Talbott Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay 2013Like all of our wines, our Talbott Chardonnay, Sleepy Hollow Vineyard is made exclusively from estate-grown grapes. It has aromas of pear and green apple, complemented by French oak and toasty brioche notes. On the palate, it is lush and elegant, with a creamy mouthfeel and flavors of white peach and pear. Round oak tannins are perfectly balanced by acidity, and there is a long finish that builds over time. The Sleepy Hollow Vineyard defines this wine, with power, richness, and bright (cool-climate, zone 1) acidity.
Carlisle Papera Ranch Zinfandel 2014A nuanced, perfumed nose of confit fruits, sandalwood and rose petal. Bright, sleek and refined on the palate, reflecting both the vineyard's prized position on the eastern edge of the Laguna de Santa Rosa (nature's "air conditioner" for the Piner/Olivet area) and the precision derived from the high percentage of Zinfandel in this post-prohibition planting - a clean expression of the variety. Plum preserves and baking spices mingle on the palate, with nutmeg notes leading the charge on the finish. Stunning. Drink 2019 - 2030.
Larkmead Cabernet Sauvignon 2014Petit Verdot, even in the small quantities present in this wine, exudes its signature textural density and floral nose of purple and blue flowers that complement Cabernet's macerated red and blue fruit so well. Cassis, graphite and crushed rock follow through on the palate, with a vibrant, cherry cola tone that rings in the finish. The fruit for this wine was harvested from predominantly young vines, and their youthful energy resonates on the palate. It is medium in weight with a supple, juicy core of blackberries that is lifted by hints of red licorice and spice. There is an expansiveness on the finish as the tannins coat the palate. The tannins themselves are very dusty, like a cherry-flavored talcum powder. This wine is incredibly expressive right now, with a wonderful balance of aroma, flavor and structure. As such, I recommend drinking this wine upon release and for the next 3-5 years. That said, an additional 10-15 years of cellaring will reward those who enjoy watching the darker, youthful flavors evolve into tobacco leaf and plum.
Christian Moreau Chablis Les Clos 2015Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils owns a total of 7.5 acres of this most famous of the Grand Crus of Chablis, more than any other producer in the region. Their primary parcel sits on the high portion of the hillside with a direct southeast exposure. With the steep grade, drainage of the kimmeridgien soils is quick leading to low yields of the densely planted vines. Vinification: A sizable 40% of the final blend is aged in oak cask, although only a small percentage is new barrels. The oak contact is unobtrusive and is a testament to the sheer power of this Grand Cru.
Bird in Hand Nest Egg Chardonnay 2015Straw green in colour with concentrated aromas include nectarine and peach intermingled with lemon sherbet. The palate is a long, intense expression of the aromas anchored by balanced oak and a creamy complexity from malolactic fermentation in the finest of French oak. The use of wild yeast followed by lees stirring further enhances the sophistication and length of the palate
Lignier-Michelot Chambolle Musigny Vielles Vignes 2015from 50+ year old vines, 40% whole cluster Reduction presently dominates the nose though there is good freshness and verve to the detailed and mineral-suffused medium-bodied flavors where the supporting structure is finer still, all wrapped in a persistent finale. Notwithstanding the finer tannins, this is a robust Chambolle villages that will require a few years of cellar time to harmonize. Burghound

Domaine Dominique Gallois Gevrey Chambertin 2015As a function of specific vintage, this wine can be tasted between 3 and 7 years old to stay within its fruit aromas. It goes very well with white meats, traditional dishes such as pot au feu stew and poultry.
Paul Hobbs Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2015This blend of top Russian River Valley vineyards displays a brilliant golden color and aromas of white flowers, baked pear tart, nectarine and toasted almond shortbread. The palate is full-bodied with flavors of Asian guava and key lime. The lengthy finish and bright acidity leaves you asking for more.
Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015Caymus Napa Valley is more representative of a standard Cabernet of Napa Valley, as it is a bit less precocious than the Special Selection, but still delivers big. Caymus prides itself on producing wines that are as approachable in youth as well at maturity. The Napa Cab is produced under the winemaking hand of Chuck Wagner.
Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2016The translucent, aurora-gold hue of this wine predicts what's to come in the glass. Mouthwatering and luscious, its aroma overflows with tree-ripened fruit - nectarine, quince, peach and Fuji apple - as well as a hint of floral perfume and tropical notes of ripe, juicy pineapple, passion fruit, papaya and mango. Sophistication has come early for this wine with a strong impression of developing minerality. In the mouth, it's round, lush and vibrantly balanced across the palate. Richness and weight counterbalance bright acidity supported by flavors of tangerine, lemon zest, candied orange peel and sweet pink grapefruit. The finish is luxurious, lingering on well beyond any rational expectation.
