Toucas Vinho Verde 2015
Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Alvarinho Toucas comes in with 12.5% alcohol and 13.4 grams per liter of residual sugar. There is no fizz. Despite the fairly hefty amount of sugar, this is merely a bit off-dry with a fruity finish. There is good balance overall, fine depth and a very tasty conclusion. This is in an easy-drinking style, but it is utterly delicious and I find myself forced to lean up a bit on this. It might well be the best-ever offering of this brand. It is not what one might call a serious style with gravitas (the producer's "Nostalgia," reviewed this issue comes closer to that), but don't hate it because it tastes great. What makes this bottling different this year is that the fruit has fine support as well as concentration. It is lifted by the acidity and it doesn't, this year, seem flabby in the least. It won't likely reward extended aging, but drink it young and fresh, say, by this coming summer, and you might think it is underrated.
