Gunpodwer tea: This is a green tea that has been slowly dried, the delicate leaves then carefully rolled into shiny pellets. The flavour is bold and bright with a slight spicy freshness. It takes an inquisitive, questing spirit to produce the most remarkable results. Through the years PJ Rigney has taken many journeys from the familiar into terra incognita. In time, those travels brought him here, to the wild and unspoilt landscape of Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim. And it was here that his curious mind, filled with the great oriental traditions of distilling fruit, herbs and botanicals, got to work. He created The Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney, with its medieval copper pot stills, and began a quest to fuse oriental botanicals with the local Irish ones. As it turned out, they got on very well indeed. The result of this passionate exploration is Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin - unique, extraordinary and remarkable as the elusive creature PJ has occasionally glimpsed in the fields, the Drumshanbo Jackalope.

The hand of time has moulded and nurtured this noble spirit to reveal a classic array of rare and attractive nuances. Although the gentle wood tones of oak and oloroso play a major part of its formation, the overall contribution has been perfectly balanced. In accordance with its long maturation, other elements such as its close association with the sea and the strong easterly winds from the Cromarty Firth are also reflected in the initial bouquet. The final rewards are the subtle hints of orange peel, honey and roasted almonds. The low rye content also allows the best of a decade of barrel aging to shine through. On the nose, there is an immediate aroma of fresh multigrain baked bread and ripened nougat. The midpalate mouthfeel is rounded out with semi-sweet flavors of grilled pineapple and candied walnuts. Single Cask Nation Inchmurrin 20 Year Single MaltReflective pale gold color. There’s a certain softness to the nose with fresh baked bread notes, dried apple rings, green pears, hints of spiced chai, delicate oak, and the slightest suggestion of a lit cigar. On the palate, there is freshly lit cigar smoke up front with stewed gooseberries behind then Asian pears and boozy tiramisu notes develop before charred oak leads us into the finish. The finish has pronounced licorice which gives way to freshly ground pepper, roasted peanut shells, and Turkish coffee.
