The McGah is the livelier of the two, with more vibrant flavors and a finish that seems to go on for minutes. I have opened them up side by side, three times and have yet to be able to pick out a favorite. Seductress or Minx? Refinement or hair pulling? It comes down to your mood and how you want to dance. Ballroom or disco?

Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon McGah Vineyard was again opaque and rich, with great intensity, not as much structure as 2013 or 2012, but a real beauty.
Lamborn Family Vineyards Vintage XIII Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2015"This sets the standard of what mountain Cabernet should be. With a cellar life of 20+ years but showing beautifully out of the bottle now, the bouquet is similar in its evolution in your glass. Rich notes of wild blueberry and currant, more concentrated and round thanks to the smaller vintage, open up to boysenberry, roasted coffee, and textured layers of vanilla - compliments of our medium toast French oak barrels. A rich and structured mouthfeel, thanks in part to the Lamborn vineyard’s celebrated fine tannin, carries this beautiful wine from beginning to end, with a long finish. Yet another extraordinary mountaintop Cabernet from Lamborn that will exceed your expectations!" - Heidi Barrett, winemaker
Robert Mondavi The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2015A testament to Napa’s grand cru vineyard site, To Kalon’s signature dark-fruited, dried herb complexity is seamlessly integrated with sweet oak spices of vanilla bean and toasted almonds, sending a wave of deliciously intense flavors across the richly dense palate in a tasty expression of power and elegance.
Bevan Ontogeny Propietary Red 2016Ontogeny. Like our EE, this is more Cabernet Sauvignon than ever before. Less mineral, more pure fruit. It also has a layer of richness that the previous Ontogeny wines didn't have. The fruit profile from the additional Cabernet Sauvignon is blackberry, boysenberry and there is a hint of mocha that really pops on the finish. Deep purple, incredibly seductive. This is as decadent as Ontogeny has ever been. - Winery Notes
Lail Blueprint Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Appearance: Deep ruby with purple edges. Aroma: Exotic of black cherry, plum, cassis and dark chocolate. Echoing the aromas, spicy flavors of blackberry, mint and boysenberry add further intrigue and complexity. Flavor: It is creamy, rich, lush and simply delicious.
Fiftyrow Alice Block Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Another 95 pt. plus vintage and the great fruit from the Alice Block has produced a 2016 Cabernet that is our best to date. It has the typical expression of the area and is instantly recognized with its distinctive Rutherford dust. Deep garnet in color with aromas of jammy blackberries and opulent dark plum while oak influences of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove round up the nose. The palate is supple, lush and voluptuous with flavors of black currant, tobacco, plum and dark chocolate, concluding with a lengthy, fruity finish. - Winery Notes
Tor Cimarossa Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016The 2016 Cimarossa Cabernet continues the lineage we been developing for 15 years. This is a true Howell Mountain Cabernet. It is not to drink immediately, it demands and deserves your full attention. This is a wine of structure, immense depth and richness that will age and improve for years. It is all about black fruits, smoke, slow-cooked meats and mouth-filling richness. This is a wine to savor with the best of friends over a decadent meal.
Tor Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Once you learn the smell of To Kalon it is one of the easiest wine to pick out of a line up. That distinct mix of red and black fruits along with damp earth and a touch of mint always shows through. This year’s To Kalon is one of the finest we have ever produced (and we have made To Kalon for 13 years!). The complex interplay of earth and fruit makes this wine unique each and every year. As with all To Kalons that we have made, this will actually be pretty approachable on release but should age effortlessly for at least 10 years. - Winery Notes
Sinegal Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2016The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits brighter and fresher tones then its bigger brother the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Initially aromas of bright red fruit pop out of the glass with notes of raspberry and cherry up front, followed by hints of baking spice, leather and wet stone. A combination of light and dark tones on the palate delight all the senses. Subtle oak notes of cedar and vanilla lift and frame the core fruit flavors of plum, blackberry and black cherry. With polished tannins and a long and bright finish, this wine is meant to be enjoyed in the coming years but will age well over time.
Maybach Family Vineyards Amoenus 2016The aromas from this deep purple wine will command your attention even with the glass an arm’s length away. The round, enveloping harmony of the aromas resonate with classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon highlights: dark fruit, exotic spice, aromatic wood, and ethereal floral notes. The palate experience is precise, layered and drawn out, well after consuming the first taste. Notes of crushed blackberries, clover oil, spearmint and cocoa nibs are expressed seamlessly in the glass. As with many exceptional creations, there is a quality that leaves you immediately wanting more, while also wanting to take time to reflect on the initial experience.
Maybach Family Vineyards Materium Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Year after year, this wine is defined by extraordinary depth, power and a graceful, full-bodied shape. In some of the best years, such as this 2016, these same qualities grow in intensity and precision. One of the great joys of working with incredible sites like the Weitz Vineyard for so many years is being able to look back for reference while relishing the current vintage. The multifaceted aromatics suggest cigar box, boysenberry, tack-room and violet oil. The completely saturating mouthfeel resonates with notes of black tea, brambly black fruit, allspice and crushed rock. The finely integrated tannins provide a pleasing structure for the lengthy finish, which fleshes out for nearly a minute after tasting. This wine possesses robust flavors, aromas and just the right amount of structure, allowing it to drink well now and age in the cellar over the next 10+ years. — Thomas Brown, Winemaker
Maybach Family Vineyards Eterium Chardonnay 2017On the nose and palate, mineral and floral qualities redolent of White Burgundy are met with an undeniably Californian personality rich with notes of stone fruit, pine needle, hay, nuts and lime blossom. Fermented and aged in French barrels, racked once, bottled without fining or filtration. Limited quantity. 102 cases produced.
Bedrock Wine Co. Montecillo Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016This old-school mountain Cabernet is elegant, intense, tannic and will be very long lived. Farmed using organic and sustainable methods.
Melka CJ Cabernet Sauvignon 2015With a nose boasting of subtle cherry and raspberry along with floral and mineral notes, this rich and creamy wine exhibits a unique combination of crushed rocks and bright red fruit. The hillside site can be credited for creating this more floral and red fruit focused wine. Well balanced with great structure, this CJ will undoubtedly be a huge crowd pleaser.
Orin Swift Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon 2015An alluring hue of dark garnet sits in the glass, encircled by a glowing ruby rim. Immediate aromas of ripe black cherry, blueberry and classic cassis are supported by undertones of lavender, jasmine, sage, tobacco, cigar box and the slightest touch of anise. Rich and vibrant upon entry, flavors of dark plums, figs and black fruit transform into sweet vanilla and dark chocolate framed by velvety and plush tannins. The wine finishes with great length and a touch of acidity-an elegant Cabernet Sauvignon from select vineyards in the Napa Valley.
Scarlett Wines McGah Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016"Flirting with perfection, the 2016 McGah Family Cabernet Sauvignon is a seamless, flawless and a compelling Rutherford beauty. Unbelievable complexity and layers intermingle with aromas of berry compote, cassis with a black cherry core that jumps from the glass. The mid palate is a silky flow of abundant blue and black fruits, followed with an opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel. The integrated structure and polished tannins carry through to a detailed and long finish. This blend from five of our Cabernet Sauvignon blocks on the estate show cases what an amazing terroir the McGah Family Vineyard is. Allow two to three years for it to mellow out or enjoy it in its prime five to ten years out." - Mike Smith, Winemaker
