Chateau Clos Dubreuil Anna 2016
|Region||France, Bordeaux, St. Emilion|
|Brand||Chateau Clos Dubreuil|
Dark ruby color. Charming, fine and elegant nose. Complex aromas of melted fresh dark fruits, spring flowers, damp earth and underbrush. Harmonious soft and round tannic structure: pure silk on the palate. 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The three Merlot plots and the single Cabernet Franc plot dedicated to the production of Anna are situated on the north face of Saint Emilion's clay-limestone plateau. They are tended to with incredible diligence and care (de-budding, leaf pulling, green harvesting etc.) in order to obtain grapes of the very best quality. Harvesting takes place a week later than for the Clos Dubreuil plots and is done by hand, using small baskets. The vinification process begins with a 10-day cold pre-fermentation of whole grapes, followed by a weeklong fermentation at around 24˚C. After 6 to 8 weeks of vinification, the wine is transferred to barrels for the malo-lactic fermentation before being aged for 20 months in French oak barrels.
Jeb Dunnuck "Based largely on Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc and made to honor winemaker Benoit Trocard's grandmother, the 2015 Clos Dubreuil Anna is a terrific effort that has considerable elegance and balance, with classic aromas of dark fruits, spring flowers, damp earth, and underbrush. This effort is pure silk on the palate and should drink nicely for 7-8 years, if not longer."
