This wine was born along with the winery and has grown with it over the years, becoming the ambassador that represents it around the world. As such, it deserves more space than can be allocated to it in this brief description.

The history of Rocca delle Macìe is, in fact, doubly intertwined with this Chianti Classico, which has evolved over the years both through the changes imposed upon it by updates to the regulations and through the enhancements made in the vineyards thanks to replanting operations, soil analysis and the clonal selection of Sangiovese. Today, we have arrived at a lively, ruby-red wine that expresses character, freshness, and terroir, and is laden with aromas of cherry and violet.

Bright ruby red color. Intense and persistent with hints of wild berries that combine well with the aromas released by the wood of the barrels. The palate is rich, well structured, berry fruit flavors, savory and full-bodied, it highlights the exceptional persistence of the bouquet.

An exceptional match to all meats and kinds of pasta.

A firm, lightly astringent red, featuring cherry, earth, iron and tobacco flavors. Vibrant, lingering nicely. Think pasta and tomato sauce. Drink now. 79,000 cases made, 38,000 cases imported.

The 2017 Chianti Classico Famiglia Zingarelli is soft, fruity and open-knit, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Pretty floral notes perk up a core of red Sangiovese fruit in this very pretty and expressive Chianti Classico.

The 2017 Chianti Classico Famiglia Zingarelli is a simple and stripped-down wine that does a good job of portraying the vintage. I say this because the wine does not show the more problematic aromas of jammy fruit that I found too frequently in the lower-end wines of other fine estates in this scorching hot vintage. That problem has been expertly averted here. Instead, this Sangiovese (with 5% Merlot) offers tight cherry and plum with earth or dried terracotta. There is a sour note on the close. Production is huge at 970,000 bottles made.
