Rolly Gassmann Gewurtraminer 2015
Pale golden-yellow. Pure, refined, varietally accurate aromas of grapefruit, cinnamon, ginger and rose petal. Supple and suave but with sound acidity giving shape to the peppery, smoked beef and spicy tropical fruit flavors. Sweet but not at all cloying, with truly wonderful acid-sugar balance (111 g/L residual sugar and 6.2 g/L total acidity). The long, penetrating finish offers good energy and lift. Delightful VT, and wildly better than the 2014 Gewürzes made here.
From clay/calcareous marl soils from Rorschwihr, the golden-yellow 2015 Gewurztraminer opens with a beautifully clear, intense and aromatic, very elegant and already mineral and complex nose. Full-bodied, highly elegant and perfectly balanced, with stimulating salinity and grip, this is a gorgeous, well-concentrated Gewurz with a long and elegant, highly seductive finish. Picked October 8, with just 20% to 30% botrytis, and 17% potential alcohol, the Gewurz ended up at 14% and 55 grams of residual sugar.
