Selah Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
|Region||California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain|
Located on Howell Mountain is the estate vineyard that produces Selah, a small, secluded site surrounded by tall pines and patches of forest. As with many Howell Mountain vineyards that sit above Napa Valley’s fog line, the site’s high altitude translates into cooler daytime temperatures and warmer evening temperatures than are experienced on the valley floor, and the extended growing season usually begins and ends a few weeks later.
At Selah Wines, we produce approximately 250 cases a year of Cabernet Sauvignon from our vineyard on Howell Mountain.
In the glass the 2016 Selah Cabernet displays a completely opaque purple-crimson hue with a dark garnet halo. Moving in for closer inspection, aromatic notes suggest macerated currant, bittersweet dark chocolate, roasted meat, pine bough, fresh loam, and violet oil. For a Howell Mountain wine, this bottling shows a silky-fine set of tannins that are well balanced throughout the entire trajectory. The prolonged, mouth-watering finish goes on and on. - Thomas Rivers Brown
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is inky colored and powerful, with textbook notes of crème de cassis, liquid violets, graphite, bay leaf, and crushed rocks. It's deep, rich, incredibly long, and powerful, with awesome structure and density. Sourced all from Howell Mountain and brought up in 80% new French oak, it's a thrilling wine from this tiny estate that will keep for two decades or more.
