Once the grapes come in they are hand sorted and destemmed into bin before being transferred into open top tanks with as many intact whole berries as possible. No sulfur is added at the destemmer. In the case of small whole cluster adds, the fruit is hand sorted across a conveyor into an empty picking bin and then dumped into open top before any destemmed fruit goes in and the spontaneous ferment is allowed to proceed at its own pace. It was an easy call upon closer visual inspection to reserve approximately 10% of each clone for whole cluster trials. Here the stems not only improve the middle but also give the aromatic a more expressive, lifted quality.

On another level aromatically, the 2018 Pinot Noir Silver Eagle Vineyard has a gorgeous nose of black raspberries, lit gunpowder, spice, dried flowers, and hints of pine forest. This carries to an ethereal, elegant Pinot Noir with perfectly integrated acidity and tannins, terrific mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's just a beautiful Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir in every sense.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Silver Eagle Vineyard is one of the more fragrant, aromatic wines in this range. The blend of Vosne-Romanée, Calera and Swan clones yields a lifted, perfumed Pinot with a lot of spice and earthy notes. Sweet red cherry, mint, cedar, tobacco and dried flowers are all very nicely lifted in this mid-weight Pinot. I would give the 2018 at least a few years in bottle, as I think there is more here than the wine is showing at present. All of this fruit is destemmed, but the Silver Eagle is decidedly savory and floral.
