What an impressive inaugural release from the Piedmont icon, Gaja and Etna superstar, Alberto Graci with their Etna Rosso. The 2017 IDDA Etna Rosso immediately impresses and entices from the first swirl of the glass. Sweet aromas of tart black cherry, red berries, and marzipan immediately draw you in. These juicy aromas layered with hints of blood orange mixed with soft herbal notes of fresh oregano carry through on to the palate. But it is the first sip that seals the deal with flinty mineral notes added to the fruit that keeps you coming back for more. The bright acidity gives the wine freshness and energy, and the silky fine tannins linger on a long finish. The Gaja/Graci pedigree and Mt. Etna's terroir is unmistakable in this new release. Kudos to both GAJA and Graci on this exciting new venture, and we look forward to tasting more releases from this exciting new project!
"Smokiness, vibrant acidity and rocky mineral notes are common for Etna wines, reminders of the nearby sea, as well as the always smoky crater, the fire inside and the perennial snows above. The wines coming from Etna have a simplicity in its best sense and are rigorous and precise." Gaia Gaja
