Upchurch Vineyard LTL Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
|Region||United States, Washington, Red Mountain|
An instant success, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon has the addition of 5% Merlot and boasts flavors of blackberry and plum reduction, juicy black cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla bean, followed by elements of red and purple flowers. Full-bodied, the wine continues showing its generosity and cartwheels across the palate, ending with a long, spicy finish. Just over 11,000 bottles made. This is a ridiculous deal-an Upchurch Red Mountain Cabernet that aged in 100% new French oak barrels, and it's only 30 bucks?!? At this price, buy the entire case.
Including 5% Merlot, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon offers loads of ripe black fruits as well as notes of dark chocolate, crushed stone, and gravelly herbs. It's a serious effort (especially for the price) that has a rounded, mouthfilling texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It will evolve for over a decade.
Aromas of struck match, cherry, plum and char are followed by plump plum and vanilla flavors. It brings the appellation's hefty tannic structure. There are good things happening, but they aren't all settled.
