Kracher Cuvée Auslese 2017
Hints of creamiest vanilla and caramelized pear stream generously from the glass. The palate deepens these impressions with almost emollient force. All of this encompassing richness is countered by wonderfully sharp freshness and a tingling background of peppery, almost nettly spice. Such lovely balance and such lasting savor!
This shows a great balance between the slightly bitter, honeyed green tea flavors and rich apricot jam notes. Light yet creamy, expressing a prominent herbal essence on the finish. Chardonnay and Welschriesling. Drink now through 2027. 1,000 cases imported.
The 2017 Cuvée Auslese is a terrific introduction to these wines. Medium in body, with moderate sweetness, the 2017 offers up scents of mango, tangerine oil, dried flowers and earthiness, with a hint of botrytis richness and texture. I would prefer to drink it on the young side, while the flavors remain vibrant. This is very nicely done.
Starting with the 2017 Auslese Cuvée, which is a blend of Welschriesling and Chardonnay, it offers a medium-bodied, pretty, and satisfying style as well as classy notes of tart peach, honeyed lime, and exotic flower-like aromas and flavors. It drops off on the finish, but this pretty, moderately sweet, balanced effort should keep for 7-8 years or so.
