Davis Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
|Region||California, Napa Valley|
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with vibrant notions of freshly crushed blackcurrants, black raspberries, warm blueberries and menthol with hints of cigar box and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with crunchy black fruits and mineral accents, framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long.
Aromas of cassis, blueberries and freshly turned earth on the nose, leading to a succulent, powerful palate that has impressive concentration of flavor and a surge of ripe dark fruit through the long finish.
Juicy, with a solid core of dark plum, fig and blackberry fruit flavors, laced with cocoa and roasted cedar notes. Fruit and cedar elements play out together on the finish. Drink now through 2023. 1,388 cases made.
Moving to the reds, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon includes a small splash of Cabernet Franc and Merlot and was brought up mostly in new barrels. It's a ripe, sexy, black-fruited effort that gives up lots of charcoal, blackcurrants, coffee bean, tobacco, and earth. It's fleshy and textured on the palate, yet has some firm underlying tannin. Enjoy this rich, concentrated, chewy Cabernet any time over the coming 10-12 years.
