Xavier Monnot Maranges Clos de la Fussiere 2019
|Region||France, Burgundy, Meursault|
Sourced from Maranges, at the southernmost end of the Côte de Beaune, this wine has an ample, fleshy feel. Black-plum and cherry flavors are anchored by a pert spine of acidity. It's soft and supple in fruit profile but elegant too, accented by hints of clove, peppery spice and fine, feathery tannins. The wine is welcoming young but should hold nicely through 2033 at least.
From a monopole of the domain, the 2019 Maranges Clos de la Fussiere 1er Cru was a little reduced on the nose when I tasted it. The palate is soft and rounded on the entry with layers of plush black plum and loganberry, the limestone terroir lending just a little spice toward the finish. A very typical Maranges, though this year I prefer some of Monnot's other red cuvees that show a tad more precision.
