Oddero Barolo 2019
- v91
Rigorous manual selection of grapes in the vineyard. Fermentation and maceration in stainless steel for 20 days at a controlled temperature of 28-29°C, followed by malolactic fermentation. They occur separately for the three vineyards and the malolactic fermentation.
The wines from the different vineyards are aged separately in 40, 60, and 75 hectoliters Slavonian and Austrian oak barrels for 30 months. The wines are blended in the spring, then bottled at the end of the summer, and aged in the bottle for another 6 months before release on the market.
Brilliant garnet-red color, with warmer tinges developing over time. Unmistakable bouquet, very pleasant, intense yet ethereal, very persistent, sometimes spiced, with aromas of truffles, licorice, and dried flowers. Dry taste, with important, full tannins.
Wine Advocate 95 Pts "These are the best wines I have tasted from Oddero. I have had my eyes on this winery for decades, honestly, and I still remember the magical understanding I experienced as a young wine novice across from a bottle of aged Barolo made by Oddero on one of my first trips to Piedmont. Many changes have occurred over the years with regard to this brand. But Mariacristina Oddero and her children have forged forward nonetheless, following an ambitious search for the best cru sites and an overhaul at the winery that prizes elegance and weightlessness in her wines. Farming is organic. In addition to these classic wines, there is a new Langhe rosé made with Nebbiolo from Roero and two new vermouths."--Monica Larner, Wine Advocate 8/2023

The 2019 Barolo is a gorgeous wine and also a terrific introduction to this range. Medium in body, with captivating inner perfume, the 2019 is sensual and inviting right out of the gate. Crushed flowers, spice, lavender and rose petal appear later, adding layers of nuance. All the elements are impeccably balanced throughout. What a total delight this is.
