Most people are aware that Sancerre wine is made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes, but not everyone knows that the only red grape variety that grows in the region is Pinot Noir. Interestingly, Thirot-Fournier owns 30% of the vineyards in the area that are dedicated to Pinot Noir, which is used exclusively to produce rosé wine. The resulting wine has the classic characteristics of a Loire rosé, with mineral notes, floral aromas, and a lively acidity. Compared to rosé wines from Provence, Sancerre rosé tends to be richer, fruitier, and more vibrant.
