"The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc offers up aromas of orange oil, yellow orchard fruit and buttery pastry, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy and flavorful palate that's lively and saline, concluding with attractive chalky grip.

I've been following Sébastian Caillat's work at Domaine Lamy-Caillat since the 2014 vintage, so a visit to the family Domaine Lamy-Pillot was well overdue. Sébastian's father-in-law René Lamy started out his career working for the Duc de Magenta and, well-liked in the village, was able to piece together a 15-hectare domaine and winery over some 20 years. Today, the holdings are balanced more or less equally between red and white. Grapes are harvested in seven-kilogram crates, and reds are vinified in concrete vats in the gravity flow, air-conditioned winery. Whites see 12 months' maturation in barrel before bottling, and reds see 12 months in barrel, followed by three or four in tank, with percentages of new oak around 20% to 25%. Reflecting a decade of refinement behind the scenes, the domaine's labels have been overhauled, and Caillat would like to extend the duration of élevage before bottling."
