Our Broken Stones cuvee is Syrah based, with a large portion of Petite Sirah and Grenache and a splash of Mataro. It is aged for 18-20 months in mainly new, French barriques. It is full-bodied, rich, and intense, but also reveals great purity, focus and complexity. The Broken Stones is a multi-vineyard blend, utilizing all the vineyards that we source from. Our wines are never racked off their lees and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Click here to download notes on previous releases of Broken Stones.

The 2017 Broken Stones is another full-bodied effort, yet it has a wonderful sense of elegance and purity as well as complexity. Deep purple-hued with rocking chalky minerality as well as notes of black raspberries, blood orange, incense, and flowers, it hits the palate with sweet tannins, no hard edges, a stunning texture, and a great finish.

Glistening purple. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe dark fruit, spicecake, incense and candied flowers are given vivacity by a building, smoky mineral element. Sappy, palate-staining black and blue fruit, star anise and candied violet flavors become fleshier with air and show superb delineation. Suave, seamless and penetrating, finishing with outstanding, minerally thrust and even, slow-building tannins that are quickly absorbed by the wine's intense fruit.

Multilayered and compelling, with expressive blueberry, orange peel and smoky meat flavors, accented by crushed stone notes and building tension toward fine-grained tannins. Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah and Mataro. Drink now through 2030. 1,210 cases made.
