The 2019 Ex Umbris opens up on the nose with dried cranberries and a touch of stone and leather. The masculine aromas then give way to fresh cherry and blueberry on the palette. Subtle pepper and light smokiness follows the fruit to the mid-palette. The tannins are mellow already which makes this our everyday Syrah.

Dried violets, cherries, blueberries, smoked meat and cracked pepper on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Supple and subtly smoky. 100% syrah. Drink or hold.

Brought up mostly in neutral oak, the 2019 Ex Umbris has a juicy, peppery, black and blue fruit, and violet-scented nose that carries to a forward, medium-bodied Syrah with lots of gamey, smoky, meaty goodness. Nicely balanced, with plenty of fruit, I don't think it's going to make terribly old bones, but it's certainly a delicious, character-filled Syrah that represents a great value.
