Estate History: Among the splendid rolling hills of the Langhe, in the heart of Piedmont, stands the beautiful Fontanafredda estate, which once belonged to King Vittorio Emanuele II who n turn gave it to Rosa Vercellana, a commoner with whom he had fallen madly in love. An ancient love story, kept alive by the modern Fontanafredda team, with particular attention to that desire to renew and improve that which has always distinguished the company, now a point of reference in the Langa area. Here, indeed the passion for wine, for the land, and for tradition finds its most concrete expression.
Aromas of eucalyptus join ripe red berry, rose, new leather, and dark spice. Elegantly structured, the focused, taut palate exhibits crushed raspberry, star anise, and menthol alongside a firm, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it vibrant and balanced. Drink 2025–2043.
This is a lovely expression of cherry, rose, and mineral flavors, with freshness and purity. Shows a solid underpinning of dense yet refined tannins. Long finish. Best from 2025 through 2042. 5,100 cases imported.
One of the highlights in this range, the 2014 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a terrific wine in its peer group. All of the virile intensity of Serralunga comes through in an expressive Barolo that will drink well right out of the gate. Smoke, tar, leather, game, dark spice and plum add character to this decidedly potent, muscular Barolo.
