The 2018 Volnay Les Brouillards 1er Cru, from more clayey soils compared to other Premier Crus and matured in 25% new oak, has a bright, airy bouquet of black currant, wild strawberry and crushed stone aromas, though I would like a little more persistence to develop. The well-balanced palate delivers firm, slightly coarse tannins. But it is delineated and focused, with lovely brine-tinged, crunchy black fruit toward the finish. It will require 3-5 years in bottle, but it should evolve into a fine Brouillards.
